Hello and welcome to our first ever blog at Tinker & Toad!
As a complete novice blogger I will keep things short and sweet just as my dear old mum used to say when I was doing my homework.”Miles…keep it short n sweet and to the point” So here goes…
How we came about…
Tinker & Toad was born almost a year ago next month (October 2016). We had previously rented space with Patsy and Clive who owned the shop in its previous life as Toad Hall for around 14 years. Clive decided to semi-retire and kindly offered us the keys. Patsy & Clive had built up a solid customer base over their twenty years which has helped us immensely.
So here the lies the clue as to how we came up with the new name. With my love of antiques dating back to the late 80’s from my time at Sotheby’s the fine art auctioneers, I later ended up in the City as a broker. Colleagues used to love my stories of trips all over the country to fairs and country house sales, from the Scottish Highlands down to deepest Cornwall and over the Irish Sea and channel. One particular work mate used to call me Tinker. Maybe it was after Tinker from the famous TV show Lovejoy or maybe my Irish roots who knows..I never asked! “Oi Milo are you tinkering at the weekend?” he’d shout across the trading floor. So there you have it, the Tinker joined the Toad!
So what do we hope to achieve with this new venture you may ask? I would like us to become one of the most popular and loved shops in Sussex and even if I say so myself, the feedback over the last eleven months has been most heartening. We are a family run firm, myself Miles, along with my wife Alison and our two teenage sons Aran and Conor muck in when helps needed. They’re the two herberts shown here!
I love good customer service, whether I’m in a shop or a restaurant, so I really hope that customers will arrive a stranger and leave a friend. I really want to serve my customers and make sure we can provide them with that special care and assistance. To treat them in a way we ourselves would wish to be treated.
What we sell…
We stock a good range of furniture, from bespoke handmade to vintage and antique. Wardrobes, drawers, mirrors, trunks, tables and chairs to name a few. With the soft furnishings to dress them with lovely wool throws, hand woven jute rugs, sheep skins, cow hides and cushions. If we haven’t got what you want in stock then you can browse through our hand picked suppliers catalogues in store. We can even source that special antique you’ve always wished for!
So there you have it….first blog done! I Hope you’re reading this up there mum!?
So I really am looking forward to meeting you all in our Tardis like shop or maybe at the summer or winter Wealden Times Fairs we attend. Wherever it is, let’s have a good old natter!
See you soon xx
