Description

A striking square oil on canvas that appears in a figurative–expressionist vein. Three tightly cropped male heads in stovepipe-style hats are set against a deep cobalt ground, their bared teeth and strong profiles rendered in earthy umbers with flashes of white and a yellow hatband for contrast. The surface shows a lively brush and a textured ground, giving the composition a gritty, graphic presence.
Signed, titled and dated to the reverse: “The Stovepipists, 10th September 1989, P. Kennelly”

Condition: Good overall with only minor age-related surface wear.
