A Robert Heritage Hamilton Sideboard for Archie Shine, Design Centre Award in 1958
Robert Heritage designed the now famous Hamilton sideboard for Archie Shine and in the process won a Design Centre Award for this sideboard in 1958. Robert Heritage is synonymous with great British design and cabinet makers Archie Shine pioneered the Scandinavian style in Britain in the late 1950s and into the 1960s. The Scandinavian, Danish style used long, low lines and the best quality timbers. I have been lucky enough to have had several of these go through my hands over the last decade but this is definitely the best I’ve had. Using Teak and Rosewood this piece has a beautiful colour and grain, especially to the two doors. The sideboard has four wide drawers on the left with typical 1950s brass drawer pulls and having reeded drawer fronts. To the right, there are two large cupboards with nicely sculpted shelves. A stunning, classic, functional and sleek-lined piece of design.
