An Antique Carved Oak Fire Surround With Bevelled Mirror Circa 1900
A handsome and imposing carved oak fireplace standing at over eight feet tall. Having a stepped and domed cornice. Arched and bevelled mirror to centre flanked by beautifully carved panels. Each having hand carved swags and tail decoration with scrolling foliage and shell decoration. Below stands the attractive graduated mantle with a horizontal carved panel below. The almost square fireplace opening has delicately carved leaf decoration to the upper corners. The whole being flanked with fluted Greek Ionic columns. Shelf depth 6 inches. Fireplace opening 38 inches wide and 36 inches high. Mirror measures 33.5 inches tall by 20.5 inches wide. The opening can obviously be reduced down with the likes of marble, wood or tiles. Reclaimed from a grand Sussex house and becoming increasingly harder to find intact. Would suit numerous settings, but wherever it lays its hat it will most certainly be a talking point!
