French Midcentury Polished Bronze And Glass Coffee Table

A Rare French Midcentury Polished Bronze and Glass Coffee Table. The top of oval form has six sections consisting of two squares flanked by quadrants to either side. The sections are polished bronze with inset glass is slightly smoked, in keeping with the bronze colour. Inset into the frame is a beautifully crafted bronze lattice section. The whole standing two sets of triform sabre legs, again these have been polished to match the top. The table is very heavy and a two person lift. The glass inserts are removable and have a few nibbles to the glass but commensurate with age and use. The table is stamped to the base with, Freteval and Bronze. Fréteval is a commune in the French department of Loir-et-Cher. The village is located on the right bank of the river Loir and famous for its Iron foundries and even has a ‘Musee De La Fonderie’. This table was most likely a bespoke one off piece as we have not been able to find another in our research.
