Large Surfboard Coffee Table, by Kurt Ostervig for Jason Møbler, 1950s

A Stunning midcentury coffee table by Kurt Ostervig (1912-1986) for Jason Mobler dating from the 1950s. The model is called The Surfboard. Ostervig was a Danish designer who loved to work with oak but also worked in rosewood and teak. This table is extremely refined with its combination of a teak top with oak legs and attractive brass strut support detail. This is the rarer eight-foot model. Marks and scratches commensurate with age. This table could easily be sanded back and re-oiled if you are looking for a pristine piece. With its size and presence, it would grace any interior. Danish furniture designer Kurt Østervig (1912-1986) began his career as a naval architect in Odense, Denmark’s third city. Changing career paths in favour of design, Østervig worked for manufacturer E. Knudsen before opening his own studio in 1947. He continued to work as a freelance designer for the rest of his career, collaborating with an array of Danish furniture brands in the midcentury era, including Bernh. Pedersen & Son, Bramin, Jason, Rolschau, Sibast, and Vamo, to name but a few. Dimensions: H 40 cm x W 250 cm x D 60 cm
