Description

A decorative pair of painted side chairs in the Regency taste, likely early 19th century English.
The dark green ground retains what appears to be much of the original painted and parcel-gilt decoration, including rosettes, anthemion-style details and fine lining.
The backs have a shaped crest rail with a painted reserve, twin curved splats joined by small roundels, and turned supports. Seats are caned, presenting a warm colour and an even weave. The frames sit on classic sabre legs, giving the pair a light, graceful profile. They would make elegant hall or bedroom chairs, occasional seating in a sitting room, or characterful desk/vanity chairs.
Condition: age-related wear and rubbing to paint and gilding, scattered small losses and touch-ins; old repairs to legs and underside as shown/typical. The caning appears generally intact with minor use wear.
Structurally sound and ready for placement.
Dimensions (each): H 84 cm x W 47 cm x D 55 cm. Seat height is 41 cm.
Sold as a pair.
